Parkland College - Minimum Laptop Requirements for BYOD Courses

Parkland sections that end in a "T" for Technology indicates that it is a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) course and that students will need to bring their own laptop to class. This laptop needs to meet the following minimum requirements.

Requirements:

Must be a Mac or Windows laptop (or tablet) that is Wi-Fi enabled and includes a keyboard. Smartphones and non-Windows tablets, including Chromebooks, are typically not acceptable for BYOD humanities courses since they don't allow for the installation of the Microsoft 365 Office Suite. The installed applications are more robust than the web version of the apps and have advanced features that many Parkland instructors have their students use.

Microsoft 365 - Hardware / System Requirements for Client Install

The laptop must have Microsoft 365 installed on it which is made available to all Parkland students for free via download.

Microsoft 365 - Installing or Accessing Online (Windows and Mac)

The laptop must also have antivirus software installed. For the various options, please see Antivirus Software for Personal Devices .
