H: Drive FAQ
What is the H: drive, and how can it help me?
The H: drive is a network drive that is available to all Parkland employees from any Parkland computer, in classrooms, labs, offices, and conference rooms. The intended use is for storing personal work-related files. Each user has a space dedicated for their use, and only they can access it.
What are the advantages of storing my files on the H: drive?
The H: drive is backed up on a regular basis. The backup system provides a safeguard against accidental loss of data and an added level of protection again viruses and ransomware which threaten to infect users’ computers, destroying their files or making them inaccessible.
How do I access the H: drive?
On a Windows computer, the H: drive is automatically mapped and should be visible from Windows Explorer or when saving/accessing files from within an application, such as Microsoft Word. For more information, please see How to access the H: (Home) drive on a Windows Computer .
On a Mac computer, the H: drive is accessible from the Finder and should also appear as an option when saving/accessing files from with an application. Please note that it will not be named H: but rather, it will just show up as folder entitled with your username under favorites. For more information, please see How to Manually Access the H: Drive on a Macintosh Computer .
What should I store on the H: drive?
Any work-related files that you wish to back up and/or access from multiple campus computers are best stored on the H: drive, as long as you are the only person needing access to the files. If others in your department need access to the files, the N: drive would be a better option.
