WHAT IS ALERTUS DESKTOP & WHO CAN USE IT?
The Alertus Desktop application is a desktop notification system designed to receive emergency messages from the Public Safety office. It is available on all Parkland-owned Windows and Mac OS devices, laptops included.
HOW DO I KNOW IF ALERTUS DESKTOP HAS BEEN INSTALLED?
To verify that Alertus Desktop is operational on your computer, locate and right-click the yellow Alertus Desktop icon in the system tray. The Status should read: Operational. If not, contact the Tech Service Desk at 217-353-3333.
WHAT WILL I SEE WHEN PUBLIC SAFETY SENDS AN EMERGENCY MESSAGE?
When Public Safety issues an emergency alert message, you will receive a large pop-up similar to the image shown below. To clear the message from your screen, click the green Acknowledge button at the bottom of the alert.

The system tray icon has turned from yellow to red. What should I do?
If your system tray icon has changed from yellow to red , this signifies that your computer cannot receive alerts from Public Safety. If you are on a wireless network, please confirm that you are connecting to the "PCNet" Wi-Fi network as it will not work if you are connected to the "Parkland" network - Wi-Fi - Access "PCNet" (for employees) .
