Microsoft 365 (Outlook Client for Windows) - View Your Tasks

In Outlook, you can combine various lists into one, get reminders, and track task progress.

Tasks are displayed in three locations — in the To-Do Bar, in Tasks, and in the Daily Task List in Calendar. If you subscribe to a SharePoint task list, any task that is assigned to you from those lists will also appear in these three locations.

For the most current information on viewing your tasks, please check out the following Microsoft help article: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/view-your-tasks-2146bc92-2d5c-407f-a619-2b2e372b2ca2

  • In the Navigation Bar in the lower left of Outlook, click Tasks. The clipboard with the check mark is the icon for Tasks.

Click a task to view it in the Reading Pane, or double-click to open it in a new window.

Another way to see tasks, including flagged to-do items, is the Tasks peek. To utilize peek, simply point your mouse over Tasks on the Navigation Bar.

View your tasks in the To-Do Bar

You can turn the To-Do Bar on or off in the Layout section within the View tab in Outlook. Select To-Do Bar and then Tasks. When you turn the To-Do Bar on or off, the setting applies only to that view. For example, if you turn off the To-Do Bar in Mail, it remains off whenever you are in Mail, including the next time that you restart the program. However, it remains on in other views such as Calendar, Notes, and Tasks.

View your tasks in the Daily Task List in Calendar

The Daily Task List appears only in the Day and Week views in your Outlook Calendar. To toggle the Daily Task List on or off, in Calendar, click on the View tab, select Daily Task List, and then select Normal, Minimized, or Off.

To display only the number of current tasks, in Calendar, click View, point to Daily Task List, and then click Minimized — or, alternately, click the top edge of the Daily Task List when your pointer becomes a sizehandle, and then drag up or down.

Tip: To create new tasks in the Daily Task List, you must use the Normal Daily Task List setting.
