Office 365 (Office Online) - Sharing a Document

How to share a document or file in the online versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote.

Quickly and easily share a document or file with Office 365 Online

Sharing from online Office applications (Word, Excel PowerPoint, etc.) can be completed with the following steps:

  • At the top right of the document window, click Share.
  • Type in the name(s) or email address(es) of the people you would like to share the file with OR you can click Copy Link to send a link manually instead.
  • To limit permissions, Click on the box that says, "Only the people you specify who have this link can edit."  This will allow you to uncheck the box that says Allow Editing. Click Apply.
  • Click Send.
