Locking a Windows 10 Machine
Locking a Windows 10 machine has changed slightly since Windows 7. While Windows 7 had all of its features for closing a machine in the same place, Windows 10 has separated them into two different locations. The first one being the Profile Icon and the second being the Power Icon, both of which are located on the left hand side above the start button once the start button is selected. The Profile Icon contains items for your account as well as locking/signing out of a computer. The Power Icon is designed for restarting, shutting down, or putting the computer into sleep mode. While this document is primarily for Windows 10, aspects of it, such as the keyboard shortcuts, can be applied to other operating systems such as Windows 7. For security reasons, all Parkland office computers will lock automatically after 30 minutes of non-use.
