An update to my.parkland was implemented in 2015 on Windows machines which reduces the number of authentications (redundant login prompts) required to access a Microsoft Office document from the portal. This will make it much easier for users to read and edit files from within the portal.
As a result of the improvement, additional security measures were recommended and also put in place to minimize the risk of unauthorized access to these documents. The following change was made to all office computers (Windows only) campus-wide:
When a user's workstation is inactive for a half hour, the screen will automatically be locked and they will be prompted for the password used to log into the machine. (If you do not wish to wait for 30 minutes of inactivity, you can also lock the screen manually by pressing the Windows icon key in the lower left of the keyboard while simultaneously pressing L.) Note: For workstations that are shared by multiple people it is critical that users log out when leaving to avoid the next user being faced with no choice other than to reboot the machine in order to wake it up.
