Cobra Learning - Adding a TechSmith Knowmia Video to a Cobra Assignment (for Students)

CobraBanner

This article is designed to assist students with uploading a TechSmith Knowmia video to a dropbox assignment in Cobra. However, faculty can benefit from understanding which dropbox submission to choose to make this process easier for students. (See note to Faculty at bottom of document). NOTE: this process would also work for uploading a video to a discussion topic post as well.

Here is a PDF copy of this article that can be downloaded/distributed to students.

Submitting a TechSmith Knowmia Video to a Dropbox in Cobra

Sometimes your instructor may give you an assignment to create a video.  You can use TechSmith Knowmia to create this video and it will be stored in your Knowmia library.  This article will walk you through how to get the video uploaded for your class.

In Knowmia

Log into http://parkland.techsmithrelay.com using your ParklandOne credentials.  Go to your library and click on the video that you want to submit for your assignment.  Click on the Share link.

Click Get Embed Code and then copy the code.

NOTE:you might want to resize the image here before copying to ensure that it's not too big...800 x 600 is a good size for viewing.

Now go to Cobra Learning and log into your course.

In Cobra

In your course, go to the discussion or dropbox where you need to upload your video.

Adding your video to a discussion topic post

Access your discussion topic and click Start a New Thread.

Create New Thread in discussion topic

Give your topic a subject, and then click the Insert Stuff button in the HTML editor bar.

In the Insert Stuff menu, scroll down and select Enter Embed Code.

In the box on the next screen, PASTE the embed code that you copied from your TechSmith Knowmia video.

Then click Next.  In the next window, you might be prompted to "allow" the video to show, but this will only occur the first time you post a video in your current web browser.  It should remember this setting the next time.

Then click Insert.  This should give you a preview of your video submission for the post.

Then click Insert.   You can click into the box and type a message along with your video, if you choose; but be careful not to delete the video that has been inserted.  If you do accidentally, repeat the above process to reinsert it.

When you are done, click Post and your submission is done.

Adding a Video to a Dropbox

NOTE: there are two different dropbox styles, depending on which your instructor chooses.  We'll show both in this article.

Text-based Submission Dropbox

Click on the dropbox link to start your submission.

In a text-based submission dropbox, it will appear as below, with only a text box.  Click the first icon (Insert Stuff) in the HTML editor bar.

This should give you a preview of your video submission for the dropbox.

Then click Insert.  Your submission will appear like this, but your video will show in the final view.  You can click into the box and type a message along with your video, if you choose; but be careful not to delete the video that has been inserted.  If you do accidentally, repeat the above process to reinsert it.

When you are done, click Submit.  Your submission will appear to you as below.

Then click Done.  Your submission is complete.

File-based Submission Dropbox

Click on the dropbox link to start your submission.

In a file-based submission dropbox, it will appear as below, with an Add a File button as well as a text box.  Click the first icon (Insert Stuff) in the HTML editor bar and follow the procedure as above to add your video to the text box, using the Insert File button.

If you click the Submit button, it will give you the following message to attach a file.

Since your video is your true assignment, you can satisfy the file requirement by attaching an image to the submission.  Click the upload button and navigate to your Pictures folder on your computer and attach a stock image of a flower or your pet.  Click Open to select it and click Add to attach it.

You should then see your image file as the attached file along with your video inserted into the text box.

Click Submit and then you should receive your confirmation of the submission.

Then click Done.  Your submission is complete.

NOTE TO FACULTY

When you are creating a dropbox for video submissions, it would be best to create a "Text-based Submission" folder to make it easier for students to upload their video and for you to view/assess it.  To create this type of dropbox, go to your Cobra course and select the dropbox link.  Then click New Folder.

Create your dropbox as normal, but note the option for Submission type.  Select the dropdown arrow.

Select Text submission and then continue with the creation of your dropbox.

NOTE: this cannot be changed AFTER the dropbox has been created.
